In 1995, Robb
coordinated centralized lodging at Mammoth for Open League Racers
attending the Finals. This innovation proved to be cost effective and
efficient for both the racers and the Mammoth condo properties chosen.
Elected to serve as
Open League Race Chairman in the summer of 1995, he served in that
position until 1998. Significant changes were made during those years
which benefited both Open League and its club racers. Open League races
were changed from a 2-course format to a 3-course format, shortening the
wait for the racer and providing more challenging and achievable courses
for all. By-laws were drawn up and approved. The Summer Awards Picnic
was changed to an Awards Banquet held during Nor-Cals (where more racers
would and do attend to pick up their awards). This also helped maximize
the Open League racer attendance at the Nor-Cals. "Nor-Cals"
is the Northern California League Championships - a contest between Open
League, Singles League and Sierra League. As Open League Chairman, in
1996 Robb Margrave was responsible for the Nor-Cals. The format was
expanded from a 3-course format to a 6-course format. All of these
improvements created a positive environment for the Open League racers
and the League experienced a 33% increase of registered racers during
this period.
In April 2000 Robb
served as the FWRA Championship coordinator at Northstar and later that
same year was elected as President of the Far West Racing Association.
This position was the most challenging to fill because of precedents set
by the past president, George Eachus. Robb has shown that he wants
progress for the future - in a reasonable fashion, but will not abandon
the fine racing traditions of the past.
Robb Margrave perseveres
as a worker at all levels of racing: club, league and Far West and is
one of the finest candidates for the Terry Smith Award; a person who at
every level promotes and improves club racing for the individual
recreational racer.
