George Eachus - 2000
| The Hans Georg Award is for in-depth, long term and
extensive impact on the sport of skiing. George Eachus held the post of
Far West Racing Association (FWRA) President for 15 of the last 16
years. He touched countless skiers and racers by offering them an
opportunity to participate in the premier recreational racing program
in the United States. Just as Hans Georg created a racing program on Mt.
Whitney, George, through his fine leadership, produced a racing program
without parallel. George served as Chairman of the FWRA Championships
on more than one occasion. He was Elske League Race Chairman for six
years. In 1981/82 he was a member of a task force to create a pacesetter
system and continues to be involved in maintaining that program. He was
one of the original pacesetters and continues to this day. He is in the
upper third of the racers in any program, but insures that the course
standards in all classes are the highest. |

In his position as President of
FWRA, he led the
association through numerous transitions and sponsors. Over the years he
initiated or assisted in a number of rule changes and enhancements. The
recent 1999 rule changes have brought the most impact.
George Eachus helped establish an environment where
expansion in the number of leagues was feasible, where Ski Week races
could be used as qualifiers and established a closer relationship with
Far West Ski Association. In 1995 George presented the Championship and
the Roma McCoy Trophies at the FWSA Convention as part of the Award
Ceremony. He has insured in recent years that the FWRA Annual meeting is
held at the FWSA Convention. He guaranteed long-term planning for FWRA
Race Finals by having the bid process arranged two years in advance.
Under his leadership, FWRA has a website and the Roma McCoy Trophy
became an actuality
